Wellness Care & Vaccination Schedules Personalized for Your Pet
No two people are alike, and the same holds true for pets. At Meriden and Wallingford Veterinary Associates, we feel that a personalized wellness program and vaccination schedule is paramount to your pet's optimal health, as well as his or her long-term happiness and vitality.
Why so Personal?
No one likes the feeling of being pushed through a system that fails to differentiate. This is especially true when it comes to one's health. The question, which then needs to be asked, is what type of treatment do you feel your pet deserves?
Starting with your puppy or kitten's very first checkup (typically between 6 and 8 weeks of age), we begin a personalized program and vaccination schedule based on his or her needs. This continues through adulthood and life as a senior pet. With each exam, your dog or cat is sent home with a report card, so you can have a record of your pet's health.
While we highly encourage our clients to be proactive with their pets' wellness, our helpful and friendly staff is accessible and ready to answer any of your questions. We can also provide written material on a variety of pet health subjects.
Vaccination Schedules
The recommended vaccination schedule continually changes throughout the years. But, no matter the changes, one size does not fit all. At Meriden and Wallingford Veterinary Associates, we tailor the vaccination schedule based on your pet's age, overall health, and lifestyle.
There are, however, several "core' vaccines most pets receive.
Core Vaccine Schedule
- 6–8 weeks of age—Distemper and parvo for puppies; feline distemper and various respiratory diseases for kittens (a series of two to three will be needed for these vaccines)
- 12–13 weeks of age—Rabies for puppies and kittens, bordatella for puppies
- 16 weeks—Final dose for puppy and kitten series
We proudly feature wellness care packages for these core vaccines. When purchased together, you'll save money while ensuring the preventive care necessary for your pet.
Booster Vaccine Schedule
- Distemper (one year after puppy or kitten vaccines)
- Parvo (one year after puppy vaccines)
- Rabies (one year after puppy or kitten vaccines)
- Bortadella (yearly)
For dogs, rabies becomes a three-year vaccination after the first-year booster. Distemper and parvo become three-year vaccinations after the second-year booster.
For cats, distemper becomes a three-year vaccination after the second-year booster. Rabies is a yearly booster.
